Iliana Boshoven-Gkini

Scientific graphic designer / Teacher

Iliana Boshoven-Gkini (1981) is a creative professional passionate about both design and nature. She holds a BSc in Plant Sciences and two MSc degrees in Landscape Architecture and Floriculture, as well as Garden Design. After completing her studies, she ventured into graphic design and founded AgileColor design studio (AgileColor.com) in 2012. She quickly gained recognition for her work with PhD students, helping them design thesis books and create compelling scientific artwork. As a scientist herself, Iliana understands the unique design challenges students face and works closely with them to balance scientific content with effective visual communication. With over 30 years of experience in painting and composition, Iliana has developed a natural affinity for color, using it to bring depth and emotion to her work. Since 2015, she has shared her expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Infographic Design through courses at Wageningen and Utrecht Universities. Over time, more universities and institutes have joined the list, expanding her impact in the academic world. In addition to her courses, she offers guest lectures, training sessions, and workshops. Iliana has been a certified teacher in the Netherlands (CRKBO, Centraal Register Kort Beroepsonderwijs) and an Adobe Certified Instructor for Creative Cloud Design & Layout Solutions since 2019, combining her diverse skills to empower others in the design world. When she’s not teaching or designing, Iliana enjoys life in Koedijk, Alkmaar, with her husband, three children, and their animal kingdom, which includes a dog, birds, fish, and a gecko.
